Islam and Ramadan
On Thursday 9th June the whole school had a focussed day of learning about Islam, being a Muslim and Ramadan. Cathy from RE on Demand ran workshops that the children learnt about the Pilgrimage to Mecca, What happens during the fasting time, tasting dates, thinking about how to give to others less fortunate than ourselves and what is means to be a muslim and the importance of Mohammad. The children were able to create their own intricate patterns for prayer mats and look at some of the resources used in their religion. The children were very surprised to find out that they prayed five times a day and had to wash and face South West to pray. There was lots of discussion and some great ideas developed over the day.
