This terms topic is Superheroes!

 

 

                             

 

Week 7

This week the children have been making 'The Perfect Pizza' they made their own pizzas adding different toppings and extra cheese. The children then wrote instructions on how to make the perfect pizza. When writing their instructions the children tried to include imperative verbs and adverbs, which we have been looking at over the last week. 

 

  

 

  

 

Wow day- Tuesday the children came into school dressed as superheroes,  We had a special visit from Bananaman! The children heard stories about his adventures around Europe, saving people and seeing the sights of Paris, Italy and London. The children learnt a few superhero songs and had some superhero training. 

  

 

  

 

 

 

 

Week 6

 

On Monday the children had the opportunity to watch the production of Treasure Island which was performed by  M & M productions. The children really enjoyed the show, joining in with the singing and actions. The school will be using Treasure Island as part of our Enrichment.

 

  

 

  

 

This week in English  the children have been looking at, following and writing instructions. The children made a jam sandwich and then wrote their own instructions on how to make the perfect jam sandwich. 

   

 

   

 

 

In maths the children have been looking at different types of graphs. The children drew their own maps and collected data to put into a graph. 

 

 

Week 5

English- this week the children received a letter from 'outer space' the planet Tenalp, The Iron Giant wrote to the children asking them questions about planet earth. The children have been looking closely at letter writing and will be replying to the Iron Giant. 

 

In maths this week the children have been focussing on column subtraction also looking at word problems. 

 

On Thursday the whole school celebrated Harvest, our class made a Superhero scarecrow.  Each child designed a face and then 1 was chosen, the children then transfered the design onto a pillow case and filled it with hay. The next step was to stuff the body with hay and join on the head. 

 

  

The children also made Leek and Potato Soup with Mr Leeson, this was then sold at the end of the day to the parents. 

  

 

 

Week 4

 

P.E- Today the children enjoyed learning a new warm up activity which involved passing a football around the circle to different people. The children then played a few matches against each other.


 

 

In English this week the children are preparing a radio advert which will be recorded at the end of the week. The children have been learning more about persuasive language and rhetorical questions.

 

In Maths this week the children have been looking at column addition, they have been using the dienes and thinking carefully about hundreds, tens and units. 

 

On Tuesday children from year 3 and 4 had a visit from Caro who works for North Somerset Music service, she taught the children songs and actions for this years Raise the Roof .

  

 

Week 3

 

Today Monday, the children started looking at newspaper articles, finding the headline, opening paragraphs, eye witness reports, looking for alliteration and pictures with captions.  The children then made posters of the key features included.

 

  

 

  

 

In our topic session the children let their imaginations come alive, when they started creating their own comic strip about our class superhero Thunder Smash. 

 

Today Wednesday during PE the children enjoyed warm up team games using footballs, they then played a football match, thinking about the skills they have been practising this term. 

 

Week 2

 

Today Thursday, we went on our first school trip to @ Bristol. The children took part in a Healthy Bodies Workshop which is linked to this terms science. 

The workshop follows the journey of food through our bodies. The children took part in a range of investigations and watched demonstrations that explain the role of teeth, stomach and intestines in digestion, and the children thought about  what they can do to stay healthy.

 

The children then had lunch, after lunch we explored the exhibits. 

 

  

 

  

 

 

 

     

 

  

 

  

 

 

This week the children have been focusing on using adjectives to describe a character. They have been thinking about the characters appearance,where they live, personality, strengths and weaknesses.  

 

Today the children used playing cards to create 4 digit numbers, the children then used the < > signs to make number sentences. 

 

Today Tuesday, during our topic session the children 'travelled' to France to look at famous buildings and monuments in Paris. From this the children used clay to sculpt their chosen building or monument. 

  

 

 

 

 

Week 1

 

Welcome to Year 4. 

Today Wednesday, the children had a P.E session with Weston Football Club. This term the children are doing football. Today the children played a variety of team games, recapped their dribbling skills and played a football match.

 

  

 

Today Tuesday, the children took part in a mark making activity, this will be displayed in the middle area between years 5 and 6. 

 

  

 

  

 

 

Today we have explored the amazing new play equipment on the playground. We learnt the rules and how to use the new equipment safely. 

  

 

  

 

We worked in groups to discuss what we thought would be important to have in our class contract. 

  

 

Topic- We have travelled around Europe today, using the Atlas to find different countries. The children then found the countries and plotted them on a map of Europe, remembering to add a key to their individual maps.
