Term 3 Week 6

Money

This week in maths we have been looking at money again. We had different coins and had to see if we could recognise and order the coins by value. We have found different ways of making 10p and 20p. Some of us have been using the coins to make number stories.  

English

This week in English we have been looking at different pictures and then describing what we can see in the picture. Some of us have been writing letters to the Emperor. Some of us have been working using the conjunction 'because.'

 

Paint Brushes 

We have all made our own Magic paintbrushes just like Chang's. We used lots of different materials including willow and glitter now all we need to do is test them for magic!

 

Enquiry

We looked at the United Kingdom  and coloured the different countries in and then labelled them England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.  

Term 3 Week 5

Money

This week we have been looking at money in maths. We had different coins and had to see if we could recognise and sort the coins into different values. Also we have ordered our money from the smallest coin value to the largest. We have also used the correct amount of money to buy different items from our shop.    

 

Enquiry

We have been looking at the human body and labeling our different body parts. We found our heads, mouth, teeth, eyes, ears, neck, tummy, elbow, knee, legs and feet.

Subtraction

We have been using counters to help us to make subtraction number stories. We have used the symbols - and =.

Chang's Magic Brush

We have been learning our new story 'Chang's Magic Brush.' Ask your child to tell you the story. We do not yet know the end of the story as we have been writing our own versions of the story ending.

 

Chinese New Year

Mrs Hunt came in to talk to us about Chinese custom of New Year. We learnt that the colours red and gold are lucky and that people eat fish for good luck.

 

We made lucky red envelopes to take home. The teachers gave us some gold coins too!

 

We created our own willow patterns on plates using blue paint.

 

We used Fimo to create our own warriors to make a Terracotta Army. We learnt that the Terracotta Army were discovered in 1974.

Trip to Lidl

We walked to Lidl with Reception to buy ingredients to make Chinese food. We tasted it and it was delicious!

Term 3 Week 3

Speech Bubbles

After creating our own oil pastel crayons last week, this week we wrote speech bubbles for our crayons. We are becoming full stop experts!

Postcard

We wrote postcards to Duncan, The boy in our story, and told him what we thought of his new crayon box.

 

Maps

We have been learning about the countries that make up the UK.

Can you name their capital cities?

 

Melting

We have made a whole class piece of work that we look forward to showing you at our exhibition on Monday 23rd January at 2:45 in the sports hall.

Colours as feelings

We have been thinking about how colours can represent feelings.

"Green makes me feel calm." Lily-Rose.

 

We made books of all the colourful crayons.

 

Letter

We wrote to the crayons in the box with our ideas of how to help the blue crayon. He was used so much he became short and stubby!

 

Numbers

We have been learning to write numbers as words. Have a practice at home, don't let them catch you out!

We also used Numicon to make number bonds to 10.

    

 

Rainbow Skittles

 

We had to make a prediction about what would happen to the skittles when we poured water on them.We were amazed to see them transform into a rainbow!

Oil Pastels

 

We have used oil pastels to create our own crayon characters!

Term 3 Week 1

This Term in Year 1 we are learning the story 'The Day the Crayons Quit' we thought about how we are going to learn the story.

 

"We could get our old chalks we don't use anymore and bring them in" Buddy

 

"We could make puppets of the crayons we can draw them and cut them out. Draw some circles in to put your fingers in." Kaden

 

"We can do some homework, letters and maths and stuff." Stanley

"We can draw a map of the crayons to find the treasure. So we can find the crayons." Lukasz
