Term 3

Welcome back to Term 3! This term our enquiry question will be, 'Who reigns the rainforest?'

This week we have had our WOW for our topic! We had to put our hands in different boxes and guess the item inside! We had a scorpion, tiger skin and a tree fog covered in leaves!

This week we have also started our multiplication and division topic. First, we looked at grouping and sharing and how division and multiplication work together.

In English we have also been starting our new book, The Explorer by Katherine Rundall - we are really enjoying the unfolding events so far.

Week 2

This week we have been investigating the climates and rainfall in the different rainforests!

Did you know that there are three types of rainforest? Can you name them all?

We have also started to put all of our new multiplication skills and apply them to multiplying 2 digit numbers by 1 digit numbers. We started by using place value counters and dienes to help us visualise the number sentences we were trying to solve.

In English we have been continuing with our story about the Amazon Rainforest. We have written a descriptive piece of writing to describe the feeling of Fred as he dived into water after the plane crash. Here is our shared write:

As I  entered the muddy yet refreshing river I instantly felt re-energised. The crystal water filtered into my extremely painful injuries and it began to sting although, I knew it would only aid my recover. Fish were gliding through the thick water and around my damaged legs.

Week 3

This week we have been continuing with multiplication and division. We have been working hard to partition our numbers first to make it simpler to multiply. We have been making sure that we are remembering the hints and tips we have been taught!

In science this week we planted our plants and have put them into the correct conditions! Come and take a look into Year 3 to see where we have put our plants.

I wonder when they will grow?

Week 4

Welcome back to Term 3! This term our enquiry question will be, 'Who reigns the rainforest?'

This week we have been learning how to divide a 2 digit number by a 1 digit number. We have learnt to partition and then keep our eyes open for a multiple of the number we are dividing by!

We had great fun learning about remainders by playing a grouping game outside.

In English we have been reading the vanishing rainforest and learning about the effects of deforestation. We have learnt that are people who both agree and disagree with deforestation... what do you think?

In science we have been learning all about plants and their different parts. On Thursday we looked at two different types of plants and identified their similarities and differences.

We then had a look inside the stem. The daffodil had been kept in water and the other without.

Lily-Rose noticed that the inside of the daffodil was wet as the water had been travelling up the stem whereas the other plant was dry because it had no water.
