Welcome to Term 3
Our topic this term is Animals and Us.
We will be learning that animals, including humans and the
basic needs of animals, including humans, for survival (water, food, air).
We will learn the importance of exercise, eating the right amounts of different types of food and hygiene.
This week we had a visit from Paulette. She bought in a spinning wheel and some looms for us to see. Paulette showed us what wool straight from a sheep looks like and she showed us how this wool is turned into yarn to knit or weave with.
All the children had a go at weaving with Paulette's yarn.
Year 2 would like to thank Paulette for coming to see us.
Celebration of Chinese New Year
The whole school took part in a day of activities to celebrate Chinese New Year.
Year 2 made money trees and lanterns.
We tried Chinese Food and made fortune cookies.
We learnt about the animals that represent each year.
Year 2 were shown lots of Chinese artefacts and learnt about the story of Chinese New Year.
The day was rounded off with an assembly.
What a fantastic day!
TRIP TO WILD PLACE
This week Year 2 visited 'Wild Place' in Bristol.
We saw lots of 'wild' animals and had a workshop about plants. We looked at plants under a microscope to find the seeds and had a go at planting our own seeds.
Year 2 had a fantastic time at 'Wild Place'.
This week we held our 'Storytelling Assembly'. Year 2 performed 'Penguin' which was written by Keira Harris.
During this term we are learning to perform a range of actions with control and coordination and learning to combine ways of travelling, balancing and stillness using the floor and apparatus in our gymnastic lessons.
In Maths this week we have been learning to subtract using a number line.
In Science this week we have been looking at animals and their babies.
We matched cards of animals and their young.
In English we are reading the book 'Gorilla' by Anthony Browne.
We have looked at the pictures and read the story.
We wrote diary entries as if we were Hannah.
During our RE lessons we were thinking about food that we use to celebrate special occasions.
We all tried birthday cake to help us think!
