Welcome back! We've had an exciting first week back. In English, we have been writing descriptively about various 'sea' settings and writing character descriptions about the characters in our class book. In maths, we have been working on area and perimeter. In science this week, we have been exploring the force of gravity and we used newton meters to measure the weight of various objects around the classroom in newtons.
This week, we were given the opportunity to take part in a Brazilian Samba workshop and we had lots of fun performing to year 6!
In maths, we have been have been looking at comparing, ordering and placing decimal numbers on a number line and in English we have written some fantastic play scripts based on our class book: A Boy and a Bear in a Boat. We have been continuing our work on forces in Science and next week we will be focusing on Friction (please remember to bring a trainer to school on Tuesday).
This week, the whole school watched M and M productions Charlotte's Web. Year 5 had a workshop after the show and learnt about costumes, lighting and sound! In maths this week, we have been working on converting fractions and decimals and have used the dienes to help us. We re-enacted the 'last supper' in line with our R.E this term and we found out what the bread and wine (blackcurrant) represented. We have also been learning about emergencies and the importance of acting in a calm way - we all know how to put somebody safely into the recovery position now.
This week, we have been writing newspaper reports about a boy and a bear lost at sea, which is linked to our topic. In maths, we have been looking at negative numbers and Roman numerals too - we have done a number of code breaking activities. We made mosaic fish in art using coloured sugar paper and crepe paper. On Friday, we ran the sport relief mile at Hans Price, which the whole class took part in and completed!
In Science this week, we designed and made our own boats. Next week, we'll sail them and see which boat can hold the most weight. In maths this week, we've been working hard to convert between mixed numbers and improper fractions and in English we've been writing our own stories based on our class book: A Boy and a Bear in a Boat.
This week, we had our class assembly and the highlight was most definitely our 'Under the Sea' performance which we have been working hard on this term.
Have a lovely Easter holidays!
