Are we there yet?
Year 2 have been very busy taking part in lots of different sporting activities!
On Tuesday we went out and took part in a sponsored dodgeball session. We all had great fun in the inflatable pitch dodging lots of balls and working together in our teams.
For our maths work this week we have revisited time. We have been looking at O'Clock, Half Past, Quarter Past and Quarter To.
For English this week we have been describing our perfect picnic. Year 2 made their own perfect sandwich, we filled these with lots of different ingredients.
My sandwich has one smooth layer of butter which is a soft as a teddy bear. My sandwich also has a slice of juicy cucumber. Underneath the yellow cheese is a lovely pale pink layer of ham. My sandwich also has a slimy blob of pickle. How tasty!
My sandwich has thick soft bread with crumbs falling off the thin crust. It has bright yellow cheese with a strong smell. There's pink think ham which has been sliced it's very flat. In the sandwich there's rose red, juicy, squishy tomatoes. My sandwich has crunchy, hard and juicy cucumber which is as green as grass.
Today we had a visit from the RNLI, these are the lifegaurds from Weston Beach. They came to tell us all keeping safe in the sun and on the Beach.
To say thank you to the RNLI we decided to write a letter to inform KS2 about keeping safe in the sun. We are spreading the information and making sure everyone has a safe summer.
SLIP, SLAP, SLOP- This is an interesting slogan used by the RNLI and this will help you remember to be sun safe.
Slip means wear a t-shirt, Slap means put on a hat and Slop means apply your suncream.
We had a fantastic start to the week with a trip to the beach. When we arrived at the beach the children enjoyed a lovely picnic and after that we got to explore the beach. We then took part in different activities on the beach. What fun we had!

A letter was found from the aliens.
We then sent a letter to Mrs Hudd letting her know what happened in our courtyard.
Spring is on its way!
Year 2 are heading for land of castles, princesses and brave knights!
Princess and Knight Day
The children came to school dressed as Knights and Princess’.
They made jewellery using repeated pattern and a Knight’s shield using symmetry. They used their measuring skills to weigh the ingredients to make royal cakes.
In the afternoon they made coats of arms, wrote their royal names using calligraphy and got to eat their royal cakes at the grand banquet.
What an amazing day we all had!
In Maths this week we have been learning MULTIPLICATION and DIVISION.
We have used repeated addition and arrays to help us with our multiplication and division-
4 X 2 = 8

How to catch a dragon!
We had to make sure we included this in our stories:
*Used the 'rule of three'
*included a question, exclamation, command and statement
Year 2 have came up with stories about how to catch a Dragon, Here are some examples of work from the children:
WOW what an exciting morning, Year 2 went to Fairyland. We then created instructions on how to get round Fairyland using VERBS and ADVERBS.
How to get around a wild and wonderful Fairyland.
First run excitedly along the colourful path leading into the mysterious Fairyland.
Next joyfully skip to the wild, noisy and scary wild wood.
Then creep quietly over to the stinky, horrible and bloody wolf hut.
After that hop happily and calmly gaze at your reflection in the beautiful water tower.
Finally tip toe quickly to the beautiful, royal and glamorous castle.
In Year 2 we have looked at estimating, measuring and comparing capacities, we also looked at which containers hold more or less than a litre.
We have also looked at 3D shapes.
We have stared to identify, name and describe properties of 3D shapes.
We made our own 3D shapes and counted the vertices, edges and faces.

We have been looking at including adjectives and noun phrases into our English work this week, here are some of the ideas we had from the children.
The prince smells like: aftershave, lovely and wonderful.
The prince looks like: Handsome, magnificent and royal.
The price says: Wait come back here please!
The prince walks like he's: Sensible, independent and brave.
Chang's magic paintbrush.
We have been looking at the story Chang's magic paintbrush, we have used this to help us in english when writing with expression. We have also looked at inverted commas. " "
Here is an example of what the children have wrote-
"Paint me a swimming pool full of liquid gold. DO IT NOW or i will put you in a dungeon forever," shouted the Emperor.
We have been working very hard on our money work this week in maths, we have been adding coins together.
Some of us found the correct amount of change from £1.
WE ARE COLOUR CRAZY!
What happens when we add water to skittles?
Year 2 have had lots of fun experimenting this week in science. The children predicted what they thought might happen when we place skittles onto a plate and add a few drops of water..
Here is what a child decided- "I think that the colour of the skittles will make a rainbow."
The children were amazed to see the results.
This is how a child described it- "The skittles blended into the middle of the plate and mixed all of the colours, the shells came off the bottom of the skittles."
Year 2 can tell you all about a simile!
In English we have been looking at how to use a simile, we know that a simile uses AS and LIKE.
Here is some examples of the week produced this week-
"The balloon is as red as a red rose on Valentine's Day."
"The Red chilly is as red as lipstick."
"The tulip is as red as my lipstick."
"The guitar is brown like my dog."
"The heroes tub is as purple as beetroot."

Year 2 have become FANTASTIC at telling the time. We have been working all week on improve our skills.
Most of us are even reading a Digital Clock. WOW!
We have looked at O'clock , Half Past, Quarter past and Quarter to.

We had a very exciting visit from Duncan today, Duncan had lost all his crayons. When Duncan opened his bag he found lots of letters from the Crayons saying they were fed up.
Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 have read the letters from the Crayons.
We all chose our favourite colours and discussed how we can persuade the colours to come back.
We have been working on our Christmas Show with Reception and Year 1. We are becoming fantastic little performers!
Greater than > Less than <
We have been looking at Greater than and Less than. The children have been introduced to the hungry crocodile.
Who only eats the biggest number.
We know that: 7<10 means 7 is less than 10.
201>100 means 201 is greater than 100.
The Gingerbread man has gone missing and Year 2 are trying to help.
We received a letter from the little Old Women and the little Old Man asking for help.
Here's how we have helped.
We have made posters and put them around the school. We have drawn a picture of the Gingerbread Man and have written an amazing description of the Gingerbread Man.

Week beginning 14.11.2016
On Monday the whole school participated in RE day. We learnt about Diwali and tasted some treats. We dressed up in traditional clothing.
Week starting- 7.11.16
Year 2 had a very exciting afternoon, Jethro from 1666 (Samuel Pepys servant) came to tell us all about The Great Fire Of London.
Jethro was full of exciting knowledge, he told us lots of new facts about what London was like during the fire.
We had an amazing trip to the Wild Place today, the children had such a fantastic time.
Dominic says "I loved seeing the wolves, they hid in the trees".
"I enjoyed seeing the reindeers and also I liked learning about Madagasca," said Maeve.
Week 4- 25.09.2016
We had an amazing time on the school trip today. Year 2 did lots of fun activities and represented the school well.
This week we have enjoyed having an extra person in the classroom. Mrs Palfrey’s tortoise came to visit us. We have enjoyed learning all about Hugo and watching him closely.
Some children even had the chance to bath Hugo.
Year 2 went on a bug hunt🐛🕷
We learnt all about different habitats. Year 2 went on a bug hunt to see some different habitats; we looked under logs, on the grass and in some soil to find different insects.
Year 2 recorded this information using a tally chart which we have been practising in Maths this week.
In English this week we have been learning about Time words- First, Next, After that, Then and Lastly.
We have been exploring time words by looking at the Elephant Dance. The children enjoyed doing the dance as well as writing their own animal dance's.
First stamp your feet.
Next wave your trunk.
After that swish your tail.
Then flap your ears.
Next twirl around.
Lastly jump up and down.
Also this week we have had a Music Workshop. Mrs Clough kindly came in and shared her knowledge of music and Africa with us. Everybody got to try out a musical instrument whilst learning songs about African animals.
We had such an amazing English lesson learning in this way.
Year 2 have caught the kindness bug...
We have been thinking about what kind things we have done and what kind things we could do now we are in year 2.
" I helped my dad when he had a bad back".
"I looked after my mum when she had a broken arm ".
Getting to know you...
It has been great getting to know each other this week. Mrs Simpson, Mrs Whybrow, Mrs Palfrey and Miss Bastin are very excited to welcome the children into Year 2.
This week we have been learning about 'super sentences'. To get our brains inspired we ate 'Rocket lollies'.
