Year 3 dressed up as explorers and went to the woods for a survival day! We made shelters, spears, survival hats, played hide and seek and had a hot chocolate and our lunch at the woods!

Welcome back! We have started our new enquiry on the Stone Age - this week, we looked at what happened during the Stone Age and made a Stone Age timeline. In English, we read our new book, Stone Age Boy, and wrote setting descriptions using the illustrations in the book.
Steel Pan Drumming
This week, we have been looking at balanced arguments in English - Do you think it was good to live in the Stone Age? We discussed whether it would be easy or difficult to live in the Stone Age, wrote a balanced argument and decided whether we would like to have lived in the Stone Age. As part of our enquiry, we worked in groups to make an advert for a Stone Age bow and arrow and presented them to the class.
We made stewed fruit - a traditional Stone Age dish!
We had an artist visit us this week - we are creating a mural for Weston museum!
We had an amazing time at forest school this week. We made boundary flag, hats using leaves and twigs and we made our own gardens using mud, leaves and grass from the forest.
This week, we have been learning and re-telling the Ancient Greek myth of Theseus and the Minotaur. We drew story maps and used actions to help us remember the story. In maths, we have been identifying fractions of shapes and learning to recognise equivalent fractions using a fraction wall.
Ancient Greece WOW day!
We dressed up as Ancient Greeks ready for a fun packed day of Ancient Greece activities. We had our own Ancient Greek Olympics, acted out the Ancient Greek myth of Theseus and the Minotaur, made Greek name plagues and made Tzatziki! In the afternoon. we tried lots of Greek food including olives, figs and feta cheese!
This week in forest school, we made bark rubbings, did a bug hunt, made a collage using acorns and leaves from the forest and made bookmarks!
Week 1 and 2
Welcome back - we hope you had a wonderful Christmas!
This week, we have had an introduction to our new topic - the world of Julia Donaldson. We have been researching the life of Julia Donaldson and are planning to write biographies. In English, we have been reading the Gruffalo. We have been writing character descriptions and creating our own mythical monsters. Next week, we are going to be writing non-chronological reports about our monsters! In Maths, we have been looking at multiplying and dividing by 10 - we used place value grids to help us. We have also been looking at length - we measured classroom objects in centimetres and millimetres and learned how to convert between cm and mm. In art, we used crayons to draw pictures of the Gruffalo and there were prizes for the top three! In Science, we have been investigating rocks - we have used magnifying glasses to look closely at rocks and carried out a water test to see which rocks are permeable or impermeable!
M&M productions came in and performed Aladdin - it was fantastic!
We created some Aladdin inspired art using watercolour paints!
This week, we have designed and made Gruffalo crumble! We chose our two favourite crumble designs and made them. Then, we wrote instructions for making the crumbles. In maths, we have been exploring capacity. We did lots of practical activities including estimating and measuring the amount of water in the different sized containers and we learned to convert between litres and millilitres.
It is Chinese New Year week and we have been doing lots of activities based around Chinese New Year! In English, we have been exploring the story of the Nian! On Thursday, we had a Chinese New Year day where we took part in lots of different activities including making a Chinese dragon, exploring origami and making lanterns.
This week, we have started a new book - The Highway Rat! We have been writing witness statements from the animals who had things stolen from them. In topic, we have been looking at famous highway men of the past - we created wanted posters for the famous Dick Turpin who stole money, jewellery and livestock from people!
This week, we have been getting our teeth into our new topic - 'Big cats of the World'. We have been learning about the big 6 and have researched and written fact files about these animals. In English, we have been exploring our new book which is called 'The Lion Inside'. We have been writing character descriptions about the lion and the mouse. In maths, we have been looking at 2D shapes - we now know all the names and properties of all shapes up to 10 sides. We have been playing shape games to help us remember what they are called!
This week, we went to Bourneville for the Raise the Roof festival! We sang lots of songs with an English theme and had a brilliant time. In maths, we have been looking at fractions. We have been shading fractions, comparing fractions and finding fractions of shapes and amounts. In English this week, we have been writing poems. We have written poems about Lions using adjectives, verbs, adverbs and similes! In topic this week, we used the atlases to find out where the big cats of the world live and we mapped the continents!
Week 3 - Interfaith R.E Day
On Monday, we had an R.E day. We did lots of fun activities including pulling Christmas crackers, tasting food and learning about Hanukkah!
This week, in English, we have been writing our own fables. We have written some fabulous fables, including two characters who became unlikely friends! In maths, we have been learning about money, including recognising the different amounts of money, counting money and calculating money word problems. In topic, we had a debate about whether big cats should be kept in zoos or not and most of you thought that they should! We also talked about hunting and looked at a leopard skin!
This week, we have been looking at time in maths. We started the week by learning about the days of the week and months of the year and moved onto looking at o'clock, half past, the quarter hour and five minute intervals. Remember to practice telling the time at home! In English, we have been writing diary entries - we did some drama to inspire our diary entries on Monday. We have also made Christmas wreaths which are displayed in the conservatory and we made Lion masks!
Everything you need to know...
We have had an exciting week getting to know each other, including lots of 'getting to know' you activities and some classroom rules and expectations. In English this week, we have been writing exciting recounts about our summer holidays - it looks like you all had a lovely summer! In maths, we have been looking at place value and have also begun our times table challenge journey - can you reach gold? Or even platinum? We kicked off our inventions topic by creating our own inventions with lego, kinnex and other building materials - the winner was the Bubble Blower Master 2000 - well done to those children!
We played some team games in P.E this week!
This week, we read our class book 'Mrs Armitage on wheels'. We really enjoyed it and have been writing character descriptions about Mrs Armitage. We have been focusing on using powerful adjectives to describe her and have learnt lots of new vocabulary. In Science this week, we were looking at light and made our own 'whizzer wheels' which could be used as decorations for Mrs Armitage's bike! We're looking forward to our trip to At Bristol - keep checking the webpage for pictures!
Week 3 - At Bristol
We had a fantastic time at At Bristol discovering lots of interesting facts about Science and discovering how Science works for ourselves! We looked at parachutes, learnt about the human body, made gigantic bubbles and even went into a 'mother's womb'. We also attended a light and shadow workshop where we discovered more about how light and shadows are made, explored the colour spectrum and looked at how light is refracted!
We made delicious cakes for Mrs Armitage's birthday.
We had a fantastic day at Weston Super Mare on our co-operative Tropicana Trip! We built sandcastles, sand sculptures, and enjoyed other amazing activities. We all enjoyed the fun sports too. A GREAT day was had by all!
