Modern Foreign Languages
Modern Foreign Languages - French
At Oldmixon Primary School, we strive to deliver a French curriculum that embeds the skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing necessary to enable children to use and apply their French learning in a variety of contexts and lay the foundations for future language learning.
Our MFL curriculum is designed to progressively develop children's skills in languages through weekly taught sessions in KS2. Children will progressively acquire, use and apply a growing bank of vocabulary organised around topics predominantly through the use of the 'La Jolie Ronde' scheme of work to ensure coverage and progression across KS2.
Children are encouraged and supported to develop their speaking and listening skills through conversational work, singing activities and games. As they build their confidence and skills, children will record their work through pictures, captions and sentences, which will be displayed in a class floor book. At the beginning of each lesson, children will complete a retrieval activity, which will encourage them to draw on their prior learning, resulting in children knowing more and remembering more.
In order to support children's learning, all classrooms will display key vocabulary that is relevant to the topic that children are learning about.
Assessment is currently under development in French at Oldmixon Primary School.
Children will develop skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing in French to enable them to apply their learning in a variety of contexts, to lay the foundations for future learning and to develop their understanding of different cultures. French is monitored by the subject leader to ensure that French across KS2 is a positive experience for all children through learning walks, book scrutinies and pupil conferencing.
