Term 2 Week 7
We started this week by sharing our learning about a Victorian Christmas.
We performed our class assembly, sharing work, showing artefacts and singing some Christmas carols.
Term 2 Week 6
This week we learnt about how Queen Victoria changed christmas. We shared all of the places and items that we knew that contained the word Victoria.
Term 2 week 5
This week we shared our learning about The Princess and the White Bear King, with our families, during our class assembly.
Year 2 went to Discover a 'Victorian Christmas' at Blaise Castle in Bristol.
The children made a traditional Christmas card, lay the table after cleaning the silver and folding the napkins and guessed who the presents under the tree were for.
The children then stirred the Christmas pudding and made a wish.
A great day was had by all!

We used special porcelain paints. Don't they look super!
In English this week we have been using story maps. First we mapped our class story "The Princess and the White Bear King" then we planned our own stories using a story map to help us when we wrote them out in full.

DIWALI DAY - Celebrating the Hindu Festival of Light
On Tuesday Year 2 took part in a series of Diwali workshops and learnt about Hindu beliefs. The carousel of activities began by listening to a story about Rama and Sita followed by a quiz. Then it was time to taste some traditional Hindu sweets and learn about the shrines that Hindus make in their homes. They had a chance to use meditation mazes and design their own sweet. The children then enjoyed making Diwali cards with lots of glitter! In the afternoon they learnt about the deity Ganesha and found out how an arranged marriage ceremony is conducted.
A DATE FOR YOUR DIARY
YEAR 2 Victorian Christmas trip to Blaise Castle
Tuesday 1st December (morning only)
Letters have been sent home, please return the permission slips by Friday 20th November
TERM 2 WEEK 2
In English this week we started reading "The Princess and the White Bear King". We made crowns like the one the princess dreams about in the book. This inspired us to write about our own dreams.
Year 2 learnt how some Victorian children amused themselves on dark nights, when they couldn't play outside, by making scrapbooks. They created covers for their theme books using Victorian Christmas images in the style of these scrapbooks. The results looked great!
TERM 2 WEEK 1
Welcome back everybody!
We are sorry to say that Miss Green is still unwell but pleased that Mrs Thomas will be returning to work with Year 2 this term.
Our theme is "Christmas is coming". We will be learning about the life of Queen Victoria and some of the important people and events of her reign. This will include finding out about Victorian inventions and researching Christmas traditions, many of which originated in Victorian times.
