2019-2020
Children's National Book Awards
We are part of the testing group for Children's National Book awards. This is a new venture for us and we have just received our first bag of lovely books. Our children will be reading and reviewing all these new lovely books. We look forward to sharing some reviews and recommendations in the next few weeks!
World Book Day
We have had some fantastic entries for our 'Book in a Box' theme this year. The children have really thought about their favourite books and shared their enthusiasm with us.
What a brilliant way to explore and share our favourite books!
Thank you for all your hard work.
Just a few examples of the wonderful 'Book in a Box' entries. It has been fantastic to see so many of our children and families taking part.
Reading areas in our classrooms and communal space.
Our children are thoroughly enjoying being able to use the additional, newly created reading areas. Many children can be seen sitting in the conservatory at playtime, sharing their chosen book with a friend. During morning break, children choose to visit the library to sit quietly reading, whereas some enjoy listening to an audio book together.
Jolabokaflod
This year we have taken part in Jolabokaflod, the Icelandic tradition of gifting books. Instead of purchasing gifts for the staff some of our families have gifted books to the school. We are overwhelmed by their kind donations. Thank you!
We provide a range of opportunities to ensure all of our children develop a life-long love of reading.
Book Awards
Every Friday during our celebration assembly children who have excelled in their learning are rewarded with a brand new book. We hope that eventually, over time, children will leave with a personal 'library' of books.
Visiting the Library
Throughout the school day we have timetabled sessions so that our children can access the library. The library is open during morning play, lunchtime and after school. Each time a child visits the library they receive a special raffle ticket. Every Friday during our celebration assembly, a name is drawn. The winning ticket entitles a family to a special reading box. This reading box includes hot chocolate, marshmallow, a box of biscuits as well as a selection of books for all the family to enjoy during the week!
Poetry and Reading Assemblies
Every Thursday morning our staff team lead an assembly around the theme of 'reading'. It is a unique opportunity to expose our children to range of short stories and quality poems that we can enjoy together!
