What a great idea!

Rather than throw away the ends of your vegetables. Place them in a shallow tray of water for 3 weeks, you will then start to see them re-grow.

If you have a garden you could then plant them outside and create your own vegetable patch.

Give it a go and send us you photos so we can share them with our other families. yearn@oldmixonschool.com

STEM building is really important for children to take part in. It really helps with their development and understanding of science, technology, engineering and maths.

Sharing STEM with your child is great as it is all hands on activities that will ensure your child will be involved and intrigued with the tasks ahead of them.

It strengthens bonds between others and encourages children to be able to work independently or to work together as a team to complete challenges.

We have provided you with a link that will explain more about STEM building and how exciting and interesting it can be for your child.

Don't forget to use Pinterest for more STEM building ideas. They have an enormous bank of ideas to inspire you and your family. We have provided you with the Pinterest link further down on this page.

As practitioners we are always looking for new and exciting ideas to help develop your children's interests.

A good tool we use that has many ideas is Pinterest. We have added the link below so that you can take a look. It doesn't cost anything to sign up so it may be worth doing so if you are running low on ideas to keep your children entertained.

Once set up if you type in EYFS activities lots of activity ideas will come up for you to take a look at. You can then narrow down your searches by being more specific. So if your child is struggling with counting objects you can type in EYFS counting activities. Or if you would like lots of mark making activities type in EYFS mark making activities.

Take a look and let us know what exciting and interesting things you have found to do with your children at home by sending us your photos to the nursery email yearn@oldmixonschool.com

We look forward to hearing from you soon.

Today use a container or bag and go around your home to find coloured objects.

Find one colour at a time. Start with blue then go on to red, yellow and green.

Once collected the items sit down with your child and explore them together. Model language of size, how it feels, describe how it looks, does it make any sounds?

Ask your child simple who, what and where questions that can be linked to the object.

We hope you have lots of fun with this activity and please send us some photos to our nursery email so that we can share them on our page.

This might be something our little budding artists would like to do......

We need your help! NHS Nightingale in London would like to decorate it's new wards with bright and beautiful drawings created by children. Drawings need to be A4 so that they can be laminated for infection control purposes.

Please send your finished creations to:
